Somewhere along the way, we started taking music for granted. We traded in high-quality for high-tech. We became okay with consuming our music primarily on the go, using those tiny, patented plastic earbuds.

It’s time, again, we go against the grain. For centuries, the best musical instruments have been made of wood. As a raw material it has stood the test of time, because when it comes to music, wood sounds good.

Sometimes, remarkable things are born out of a combination of sheer luck and will. Such happens to be the case with the creation and development of the Wood Speaker.
Maarten Dijksman, the mastermind behind this invention, always held a deep-seated passion for music.
A craftsman, Maarten began working out of Strijp-S, a neighborhood and former industrial park in the Eindhoven district of Strijp. The area had once belonged to well-known electronics company named Philips, but had since become a thriving area for local craftsmen and creatives.
While working on a project involving a custom-made stool, Maarten created a mold for his design. To his surprise, when the mold was finished, it bared a striking resemblance to that of a gramophone. Intrigued by this, it inspired Maarten to test the sound quality of his new design.
As it turned out, Maarten’s gramophone sounded remarkably good. So, he did what any other self-respecting craftsman would do: he developed it into a product. The Wood Speaker was born.
